3 Of Our Favourite Family Friendly Days Out In Yorkshire

Tomorrow sees the start of a week-long celebration of events showcasing the very best of British experiences across the country in English Tourism Week. We love getting out and about in our home county of Yorkshire so I thought I’d share some of my favourite family friendly days out in my home county.

1. Explore some caves

The kids will love exploring underground at Mother Shipton’s Cave in the Yorkshire Dales. As well as exploring the caves, there is an adventure playground, children trail and tea room.

2. The York Maze

Every year the York maze has a different theme – the 2015 theme was based on Thunderbirds and took over a week to make! There is loads to do here as well as the famous Maze – once you’ve made it out try out the Cobstacle Course, the Jumping Pillow or climb the straw bale mountain.

3. Day out at the Seaside

Our favourite beach is at Filey on the East Coast where there are donkey rides, rockpools and a 7 mile beach to play on. Don’t miss the Naval warfare battle at Peasholm Park further up the coast in Scarborough – the kids will love seeing the 8 foot boats and planes do battle in the famous park!

  1. I have such fond memories of a trip to this part of Yorkshire, there was a scarecrow festival in the village near our campsite! I really must arrange another, the kids would love the caves and maze – what month is the maze?

    • Hi Penny – you would love the Maze! It’s on during the summer months – I don’t know what this year’s theme is yet but I am looking forward to hearing!! JO x

  4. 7 miles of beach sounds blissful and the wishing well at Mother Shipton’s Cave looks amazing. I know my boys would enjoy the maze. Thanks for the family friendly Yorkshire ideas!

  8. I’d love to explore more of the Yorkshire coast – we’ve mostly found ourselves in the south and south west but there’s some gorgeous seaside there (and I do fancy Whitby as well). On my very long list of seaside holidays I want to take in England!

  9. Great suggestions! We haven’t yet been to Mother Shipton’s Cave but I’d love to go with the kids. I didn’t realise that there was an adventure playground there too!

  10. Oh I remember absolutely loving Mother Shipton’s cave when I was young! Fascinating place for kids. I need to make a reason to go on a Yorkshire trip soon.
