Baby friendly hotel in Cornwall: Review of the Fowey Hall Hotel.

Marina and Matt Connor from West Yorkshire took their 1 year old baby, Archie, to the Fowey Hall Hotel in Cornwall. Find out how they got on below.

How old was Archie when you went to the Fowey Hall Hotel?

Archie was nearly 1 when we went. It was a week before his first birthday.

How did you find out the Fowey Hall Hotel?

We found it online when searching for a luxury baby friendly hotel in Cornwall.

Why did you choose that hotel?

I thought it looked fabulous. The building was beautiful and I loved the write up about the hotel on the website. It was very baby friendly, but was still very luxurious. It was quite expensive so we only stayed one night. For the rest of our holiday we had free use of a holiday cottage so I thought we could justify a night there.

Did you prebook any baby equipment in advance?

If you have a baby, they will automatically supply a changing mat and nappy bin along with the travel cot. They also have a small number of steam sterilisers, fridges and bottle warmers. If you would like to use any of these items during your stay, all you need to do is ask them. They can provide full fat milk for bottles and heat bottles for you. Morning and evening milk can be brought to your room and is all complimentary. Chef is happy to provide puréed food from 7am to 10pm.

What was your room like?

We had a lovely spacious ground floor room which had a beautiful bathroom with a long deep bath. We had sliding doors which led into the garden area which meant we could let Archie run around outside.

What baby friendly facilities in the hotel did you use / like?

We used the free baby listening service which enabled us to eat a delicious meal in the evening on our own. They have an OFSTED registered creche which guests can use, but we didn’t because Archie was young and we were not there long enough.

How was the food?

Superb! I can’t remember what I ate for starters or mains but I remember the pudding was 3 ways with strawberries and it looked too good to eat but when I did it was absolutely delicious.

How do they cater for babies

There was an early meal time for young ones (between 5pm-6pm) There were 2 choices, hot buffet style so you could help yourself. We chose fish pie for Archie which he enjoyed and sponge & custard for pudding. There was juice, water and fruit for the children too.

What did you do when you were there?

We walked into Fowey and explored the shops and we walked to the nearest bay. The morning of departure we had a swim and had the pool to ourselves. There were floats and toys in the pool for Archie to enjoy the use of.

When we were in Cornwall we visited Polkerris Beach, Eden Project, Bedruthen Steps,
One of my favourite places was The Minack Theatre, which is Cornwall’s world famous open-air theatre. The weather was beautiful on the day we visited and the views were spectacular.

What did you like best about the hotel?

During our short stay the best part for me was the baby listening service. Since Archie was born we hadn’t had the opportunity to eat a nice meal together so I really enjoyed our candle lit romantic meal together in the plush surroundings.

The biggest selling point for me was that it was a luxury hotel but baby friendly. It wasn’t a combination I had ever experienced before and I was totally blown away by it. If I could afford to I would be going to these sorts of hotels regularly as they are fantastic. Anything you didn’t like or they could have done better?

No I cannot think of a single thing.

Would you go back?

Absolutely. I loved every second. I wish we could have stayed longer!
