Loch Morlich – Just a 20 minute drive from the Macdonald Aviemore Resort is stunning Loch Morlich. This is the UK’s highest beach and has fine white sand fringed by pine forest and mountains. During the summer months you can take part in a variety of water sports and there is also a 3.5 mile bike ride / buggy friendly walk around the edge of the Loch. Or you can take your bucket and spade and spend the day building sandcastles and paddling in the loch.
Family Friendly Walks – There are plenty of easy walks in the spectacular Glenmore Forest including a buggy friendly walk up to the famous An Lochan Uaine which is also known as the Green Loch. Other family friendly walks include the Osprey Walk at Loch Garten, the Wildcat walk around Newtonmare and Anagach Woods in Grantown. There are also good walks for families at Loch Insh.
Strathspey Steam Railway – Take a trip back in time and travel on a steam train from Aviemore to the Boat of Garten and Broomhill. A perfect day out for train loving toddlers!
Landmark Forest Adventure Park – This is a great family friendly day in the Cairngorms – little ones will love the Red Squirrel Nature Trail, Butterfly House, Lost Labyrinth and rides at this family adventure theme park.
Highland Wildlife Park – See over 200 animals at the Highland Safari Park! This fantastic attraction includes a drive around the safari park followed by a walking tour around the rest of the park. There are loads of animals to see including big cats, polar bears, Scottish wildcats and beavers.
A day out at Loch Ness – Just over an hour away from the Macdonald Resort is Loch Ness (and the monster!) Definitely worth a day out!
Rothiemurchus is a large estate in the Cairngorms with loads of family friendly activities such as a hairy coo safari and red deer feeding. It’s also the home of the famous Loch An Eilein (loch of the island) which is a stunning loch surrounded by forest and hills with a magical island ruin in the middle.
Cairngorm Reindeer – The Cairngorm Reindeer Herd is Britain’s only free-ranging herd of 150 reindeer found in the Cairngorm mountains. Families can visit the reindeer in the paddock or go on hill visit and see them on the mountain.
RSPB Loch Garten is the ideal place to see ospreys when they return to Scotland to breed. Children can use the binoculars and telescopes to see the birds in their nest whilst exploring the trails in this Caledonian Forest. A great day out for bird lovers!
