Europe is a popular holiday destination for families with babies and toddlers looking for a bit of sun,sandcastles and paddling in the sea. But there are loads of places to stay, so how do you find somewhere which is amazing for babies and toddlers? Check out these suggestions about the best baby and toddler friendly places to stay in Europe.
The Sani Resort
Starting at the top end of the scale, the Sani Resort in Halidiki, Greece is a 5* child friendly resort with a range of different accommodation options including a hotel and apartments. It is set on a 1000 acre eco reserve surrounded by forests, olive groves and a stunning sandy beach.
There are great facilities for children including a playground, multiple children’s swimming pools, children’s dining and Babe Watch Nannies who keep an eye on the children on the beach if you want a dip! The resort is less than an hour from Thessaloniki Airport which is served by British Airways, Ryanair and Easyjet from the UK.
The Daios Cove
The Daios Cove is a 5* resort in Crete which has a variety of children’s swimming pools and an infinity pool for adults. There is also an Explorer’s kids club with activities such as ice cream making and pyjama parties in case you want to have a bit of time off.
Sticking with the 5* hotels, the Almrya Hotel in Cyprus is renowned for providing excellent facilities for babies and toddlers.
There is a specially designed children’s swimming pool which is shaded by an awning to protect them from the sun on hot days. There is also a ‘Baby Go Lightly’ service which lets parents’ pre order essentials such as potties, high chairs, prams, sterilisers and even crayons, colouring books, books and children’s DVDs.
There is an indoor playroom and an outdoor playground to explore, as well as a crèche which you can book when you arrive (extra cost). Cyprus is also a good choice if you are looking for somewhere to go later in the year or in early summer as it is warmer than mainland Europe, and there are plenty of flights to Paphos from the UK.
Closer to home, Portugal has a good choice of baby and toddler friendly accommodation and there are loads of year round flights to Faro. Check out the Martinhal hotel in the Western Algarve which is a large resort offering self catering apartments, villas and apartments on the beach especially designed for families.
There is plenty to keep babies and toddlers occupied at the Martinhal including children’s swimming pools, play areas and a crèche where toddlers take part in fun activities such as a treasure hunt and face painting. The baby concierge service means you can also borrow most of the baby equipment you are likely to need meaning you can fit more of your things in the suitcase.

The owners are parents themselves, so they make a real effort to welcome families with small children by providing a long list of (free) baby equipment to borrow, a children’s play area, a Baby Welcome hamper and even paddling pools for babies to enjoy!
For somewhere a bit different, why not think about Germany. We went to Bavaria last year with our then 3 year old and 5 month and had a great time. There are no beaches but the temperatures were mid twenties and we had such a good time exploring the Bavarian Forest, going cycling, on cable car rides and on tree top walks.
Have you thought about France? There is a great range of great value baby and toddler friendly gites in France and it’s a short flight. Emerald Coast Gites are 15 mins from the beach in Brittany. Imagine Rousillion is a luxury resort with 4 apartments near a beach in south France with a spa and a pilates studio. Les Mortiers in the gorgeous Loire Valley has 3 baby and toddler friendly gites with a swimming pool, toys, books, jigsaws and even a paddling pool.
Other options in France include Le Vendange index.html in the Charente with an enclosed garden, 2 lovely heated pools, swings, a slide, a trampoline and a shaded sandpit). If you want luxury, check out Pagel with its pirate ship and playbarn – it is also close to a Michelin restaurant!
Domaine De La Dolce in the Lot region has an indoor playroom with dressing up clothes, baby gym and ride ons in case the weather is a little bit unsettled. For outdoor fun, there is an ‘enchanted’ outdoor playground which wooden house! Les Crouquets offers baby and toddler friendly gites in the Dordogne. There is a large salt water swimming pool, toddler splash pool, huge playbarn as well as farmyard animals

The Canary Islands
The Canaries are a good option for all year round sun – check out Finca De Arrieta – just 300m from a beach and run by owners with their own brood of children. There is a toy box in each property, a wooden playground and an outdoor swimming pool too.
Caserio Del Mirador is accessed via Alicante Airport so loads of flights to choose from. It isn’t near the beach but is a small, exclusive child friendly resort with loads of toys an outdoor play area including a sandpit and a swimming pool. Fresh croissants are delivered to you each morning.
Finally, how about Italy? Villa Pia situated in between Tuscany and Umbria and offers excellent facilities for children including two swimming pools, sand pit, trampoline, indoor soft play room and even children’s cookery and art classes. It is near to a castle and of course you can sample Italian gelato when you are there!
