We were thrilled when Lower Campscott Farm Cottages joined our collection of amazing baby and toddler friendly cottages!  Lower Campscott is ideal for families looking for a farm holiday in Devon as toddlers can help feed the animals, collect eggs and also go on a tractor and trailer ride around the farm. There’s also farm tours, a pets corner and a fab outdoor play area.  We caught up with Kathy and Tony from Lower Campscott to find out a bit more about them and why they believe Lower Campscott is so good for families with young children. We also got some insider tips on the best places to visit around the farm!

Tell us a little bit about Lower Campscott, how it started out and where you are located.

We were looking for a new lifestyle challenge just over 12 years ago and instantly fell in love with Lower Campscott Farm even though we were aware it needed a lot of hard work. It was worth it if only that we can now share such a wonderful place with others, particularly families with young children.

Can you tell us about why Lower Campscott Farm is so good for families with babies and toddlers? What makes you so special?

Our farm is surrounded by countryside with great views to the sea, giving children freedom to roam and explore. They are able to get close and interact with our friendly animals throughout their stay – everyone has their favourite! As well as being able to feed the animals on the morning farmer’s rounds, children can also collect fresh eggs from our hens, take one of our Shetland ponies for a walk or enjoy our vintage tractor and trailer rides around the Farm. Farmer Tony loves teaching the children all about life on the farm and he’s never short of a funny joke or a farming story!

Why are your cottages and lodges so good for families with young children?

We are situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty (North Devon AONB) on the North Devon coast with an abundance of wildlife, award winning beaches and rolling countryside. Lee is a beautiful chocolate box village just a short walk from the farm, with a quaint little pub serving a wide selection of drinks including their own ale and gin plus home cooked meals, making it an ideal spot to have a break after a fun day rock pooling down at Lee Bay.

Why should families visit North Devon?

One of Britain’s best beaches, the award-winning Woolacombe Sands is just a short 10 minute drive from the farm and is a beautiful golden sandy beach, perfect for making sandcastles. Funder island in Woolacombe, a pirate themed adventure playground, is great for smaller children and families with crazy golf, water rides and interactive games. There is also an arcade to keep little ones entertained on rainy days, with a choice of shops, pubs, and other eateries to save having to cook while on holiday.

A short drive in the other direction from the Farm is the picturesque harbour town of Ilfracombe with its very own aquarium. You will also find quaint shops, restaurants, cafés, not to mention ice cream parlours: because it wouldn’t be a holiday without an ice cream in hand! Our favourite has to be ‘Fleur and Mimi’s’ with their extensive range of flavours, milkshakes and waffles that are hard to beat.

Can you give us some insider tips on your favourite days out and beaches near Lower Campscott?

There are so many family friendly days out to choose from but here’s our top 5, tried and tested by many of our guests throughout the years.

Our family friendly cottages and lodges all have enclosed decked areas or gardens, meaning smaller children can safely play outdoors. We can supply cots, bed guards, baby baths, potties, highchairs and more to make packing for your holiday as stress free as possible. We also have an outdoor play area,  games room and ride on tractors for children to enjoy while being outside breathing in the fresh country air. To complete your holiday we have a small farm shop and can even take bookings for your own personal hot tub hire !

Lower Campscott Farm is the perfect place for families to unwind and relax in a safe and open space, and we feel so lucky to live here and to be able to share it with others.
